Tips from the Kitchen: The Difference between Coffees

The lingo used to order a coffee drink is a whole language in itself. Here is a useful chart to help differentiate between all the coffees!

Dolce Gelato

We got to Taste of Little Italy way earlier than it was to start. Ended up sitting in Dolce Gelato for a while. Great little cafe filled with authentic Italian desserts and of course, gelato!

In the Kitchen: Balsamic Strawberries

There is nothing simpler than this recipe! All you need is a pack of fresh strawberries and balsamic vinegar.
Vinegar? Trust me, you will hardly taste it! The vinegar actually brings out the sweetness of the strawberries even more :)

Canoe (Summerlicious 2011)

Went here for Summerlicious 2011 for the lunch. Figured might as well try the famed Canoe and enjoy the view and food  too :) We got really lucky with the reservations and actually got the last spot available 2 weeks before our lunch. The lunch price is a MUCH better value than dinner after seeing a few pictures of their meals - the portions were quite the same as the lunch portions.

Tips from the Kitchen: When are Fruits/Veg/Herbs in Season?

A huge misconception when buying fruits, vegetables or herbs is that they are available year round. Yes, you will be able to find them in the store, but they may not be at their freshest. Seeing as we're university students and still learning on how to buy the freshest groceries possible, we thought we'd give a quick run-down on buying fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. Stumbled upon these amazingly helpful charts that displays which fruits/veg/herbs are in season:

THE WORKS - Waterloo

The Works has finally come to Waterloo! It's only been the first week and the place is already packed every night! We got their at around 6:30, and we had to wait 40 minutes for an 8 person table. J and I went back on a Friday night at around 7:30 and had to wait 25 minutes. We noticed it started to slow down around 9 so we will try coming around that time next time!
