These Forks Will Add 21 Flavours in a Single Bite!

via
Want to taste a steak with a hint of strawberry? But would you really sacrifice a full steak and a basket of strawberries just to find out ? Molecule-R (basically the Betty Crocker of the molecular gastronomy world) has come up with the Aromafork and it is breaking the convention rules that certain foods can't mix.

The Aromafork is based on the principle that most of what we taste is really just smell (and yes, that's why everything tastes bland and boring when you have a stuffy nose). While your tongue can test the five main tastes (bitter, sweet, salty, sour and umami) your nose can smell up to a trillion different smells. Therefore, since the fork holds an aromatic compound near your nose, it mixes what's on your tongue with what you are smelling and thus producing new flavours on your palette.

The device is ridiculously simple it's a wonder no one has thought of it before. It's a regular fork with the exception of a tiny depression on the handle. The depression holds a tiny sheet of blotting paper that is saturated in a single drop of an aromatic. The forks come with a huge kit of versatile compounds that could make eating even more fun. Imagine the possibilities.. steak flavoured 21 different ways with aromatics like bubble gum, smoke, truffle, passion fruit and cheese cake.

The fork comes with 21 different flavours including common ones like vanilla and chocolate as well as exotic tastes such as passion fruit, basil and mint. The kit itself includes four Aromaforks, 21 aromas, four droppers, 50 diffusing papers and one multi-sensory evening program. It is now available for pre-order for $58.95 and will be released in July 2014. An Aromaspoon is also available for $24.95
